Keep Clayoquot Wild!

ACTION ALERT May 2010

Tell BC government and Imperial Metals:
A Clayoquot Sound mine is NOT on!

Catface Mountain as seen from Tofino’s First Street DockImperial Metals of Vancouver is undertaking a second round of exploratory drilling (22 drill holes) on Catface Mountain in Clayoquot Sound from spring to fall 2010.

Imperial says it will decide in the next year or two whether to apply for a huge open-pit copper mine on Catface Mountain.

PLEASE CONTACT THE B.C. GOVERNMENT AND IMPERIAL METALS AND TELL THEM YOU DO NOT WANT AN ENVIRONMENTALLY DESTRUCTIVE COPPER MINE ON CATFACE MOUNTAIN IN CLAYOQUOT SOUND.

The mine would be one of the biggest industrial projects on Vancouver Island and would remove the top third of Catface Mountain, including its ancient temperate rainforest.

Catface Mountain is in the middle of the ecologically sensitive UNESCO Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve; surrounded by salmon streams and rich ocean waters; and within sight and sound of the town of Tofino, a top tourist destination in B.C. and Canada.

Our government and the company need to hear from thousands of you that Catface Mtn. in Clayoquot Sound is one of the most contentious spots in Canada for a huge open-pit mine. They need to hear that a mine application will generate huge opposition – local, provincial, national and international – and that’s it a fight they don’t want to take on.

Letters are the most effective. Your letter (or fax/email/phone call) can be very short, just a sentence or two.

If you want to incorporate more information about the potential Catface mine into your message, you can check the fact sheet. (PDF, 18k)

A public outcry is needed to prevent a Catface mine application. Your participation is invaluable. Thank you for speaking up against destructive industrialization of Clayoquot Sound!
