The Killing of Sea Mammals

The high concentration of farmed salmon in open netcages makes easy prey for many marine mammals and birds.
In order to prevent predation of their product, fish farmers are issued permits from the federal Minister of Fisheries and Oceans to kill harbour seals, California sea lions and Steller sea lions without numerical limit.
5000 sea lions and seals have been reported killed in the last decade by fish farmers in BC.
In the spring of 2000 a mass grave containing at least 15 sea lions killed by a farm operator was discovered in Clayoquot Sound.
Some salmon farm operators have also admitted to contracting people to "dispose" of otters
There are many more unreported and illegal kills of animals such as black bears and eagles.

Shortly after the incident, Creative Salmon voluntarily removed rifles from their farm sites.
