Choosing to make a gift beyond your lifetime through a bequest or gift of life insurance is a profound way to pay tribute to the values that are closest to your heart. By making a gift to the Friends of Clayoquot Sound through your will, you will honour your love of wilderness in the most meaningful way possible - by helping to protect and sustain the magical and rare ecology of Clayoquot Sound.
Ways to Give
You can make a gift to support the charitable activities of the Friends of Clayoquot Sound and receive tax benefits for your estate by making the Tides Canada Clayoquot Conservation Fund the beneficiary of your will or insurance.
You can also make a bequest directly to Friends of Clayoquot Sound if tax benefits are not needed. (Friends of Clayoquot Sound are not able to offer tax receipts for donations) If this an option for you, please contact our Director of Funding, at 250-725-4218 or by email.

How to make a bequest to FOCS in your will
There are several ways to acknowledge a gift to the Tides Canada Clayoquot Conservation Fund. Below are some wording options to consider. Please discuss your options with your financial advisor and our Director of Funding.
General Bequest. General bequests are broadly worded to allow executors to determine the most advantageous way to make a gift from an estate at the appropriate time. Because the gift is usually taxed, often an amount of cash, it typically takes precedence over other gifts.
Sample: "I direct my executor to transfer the sum of $100,000 dollars to
Tides Canada Foundation, Clayoquot Conservation Fund 400-163 Hastings, Vancouver BC V6B
1H5, for its own use absolutely."
Specific Bequest. A specific bequest usually identifies a specific piece of property to be donated.
Sample: "I give to Tides Canada Foundation, Clayoquot Conservation Fund,
400-163 Hastings, Vancouver BC V6B 1H5, asset X (ie. stock, bond, RRSP/RRIF) for general use."
Residual Bequest. The residue of an estate is what remains once all specific bequests, fees and taxes have been allocated. This type of bequest can be advantageous because the size of the gift ends up reflecting a donor's actual financial situation and respects other key commitments. Changes in an estate between the time of the will writing and the time of death will change the gift proportionately.
Sample: "I direct my executor to transfer the rest and residue (or X
portion of the residue) of my estate to Tides Canada Foundation, Clayoquot
Conservation Fund, 400-163 Hastings, Vancouver BC V6B 1H5, for its own use absolutely"
Contingent Bequest. Donors may also choose to make Tides Canada Foundation a benefactor only if the first person to whom their gift is made dies before they do.
Sample: "If upon my death (named beneficiary) does not survive me, then I
give to Tides Canada Foundation, Clayoquot Conservation Fund 400-163
Hastings, Vancouver BC V6B 1H5, X per cent of my estate for general use."
